The White Rabbit Gallery is home to one of the world’s largest and most significant collections of contemporary Chinese art, focusing on works produced after 2000. There are stunning artworks from this non-institutional gallery to enjoy and be absorbed in.
The Gallery is a specially converted knitting factory, with four floors of exhibition space to stroll through, a Theatrette, a library and a tranquil street-level Tea House to sit, sip and reflect in.
Making the exciting world of contemporary Chinese art available to Australians, Judith Neilson and her husband opened the White Rabbit, with the origins of the Collection going back to the late 1990s.
White Rabbit’s second exhibition which concludes August 2nd, The Tao of Now, presents more than 60 works, from which only four have previously been shown in Australia. Their themes are modern and relative, such as land theft, political power and the lust for luxury goods. These contemporary reflections are also steeped in the oldest parts of Chinese culture: Taoism, Buddhism, Confucianism, martial arts and ancient legends.
Combining three of life’s pleasures; friends, tea and books, the White Rabbit hosts a book club every second Sunday of every month, at 2pm in the library. Indulging in another medium, enjoy screenings of Chinese films in the Theatrette, 2pm on the first Sunday of every month.
Fascinating, intriguing and animated, the White Rabbit Gallery exhibits art works from brilliant imaginations and artistic mastery, so follow the intriguing path to this garden full of imagination.
