Wild Talent

Don't Try To Tame This Beast

By Zoe Ferguson, 25 August 2011

This time last year we enjoyed the Australian theatre company The Spinster and The Whippet's Fringe Festival show Careers for Attractive Ladies. So guess what? Those talented writing and producing ladies Carolyn Burns and Jenna Martin are back. And this time they're fierce, untamed and soon to unleash their showcase of talent in their new show Mongrel.

Written by Burns, Mongrel tells a tale of a lonely man who meets a woman and tries to take fate into his own hands, with unexpected results. It's a scathingly funny look at the generation gap, karma and the kindness of strangers.

David has lived a quiet life. A private investigator for the tax department, he spends plenty of time sitting by himself, watching people...and old Disney movies. David needs a friend.
Saskia likes self-help books and slasher films. She's just finished school and saving up for her first overseas holiday. Saskia needs a better job.

Starring Helpmann Award winner Terry Serio and Jenna Martin, and directed by Alana Hicks, Mongrel is a must-see production in the Sydney Fringe Festival programme. Ravishing the Newtown Theatre stage on September 13, 14, 15, 18 and 23, you have no excuse to miss this wonderful Mongrel of a theatre piece.
