The Emerging Writers' Festival has become a key event in Australia's literary scene.
Writers and readers alike shouldn't miss this rapidly growing festival. It's a platform for up-and-coming writers to be exposed and it closes the gap between readers and writers, allowing them to interact face-to-face, rather than through the page.
The festival runs from Thursday 26 May- Sunday 5 June and with 50 events and more than 350 writers participating in readings, workshops, discussions and panel events, there'll be something to take everybody's fancy.
Kicking off the Emerging Writers' Festival is First Word, the gala opening at BMW Edge, Federation Square. It will be a night of performance, music, comedy and poetry and is a celebration of the written word.
If you're into sex, cocktails and dirty talk then don't miss Dirty Words at The Toff in Town on 1 June. This exploration of erotica in literature will leave even the most prudish punters hot under the collar. It will be a tantalising evening featuring heated debates, theatre snippets, music, burlesque, comedy and much more. A one night only event, Dirty Words is a one night stand that will actually leave you satisfied.
In The Pub is an event dedicated to music writing, offering insight into the world of music from a range of people who have conquered this somewhat overwhelming industry. In The Pub, held at Tote Hotel on 2 June, will be hugely useful and entertaining for lyricists, aspiring music journalists, or simply music lovers. There'll be plenty of music (of course), dancing, debauchery and a whole lot of brain food.
