If you weren't aware, Lamington Drive has moved from its original location in Fitzroy and is now happily residing at The Compound Interest Centre For Applied Arts in Collingwood. So if you haven't visited the new location, now is the time.
As summer closes, 'Aurora' opens at Lamington Drive. 'Aurora' is the third in a series of works by Matt Huynh, which represent his responses to the changing of the seasons. As we bid farewell to the summer which never quite began, Matt Huynh pays homage to this fleeting season through 'Aurora,' a single, large-scale charcoal and pigment drawing on 100% water colour paper. This drawing is of such epic proportions that it runs the entire length of the gallery.
Coinciding with this opening is the launch of Pin Up- Lamington Drive's new next-door-neighbour gallery, established by Fluer Watson and Martin Hook of creative studio, Something Together.Pin Up is an independent project space for architecture and design and it's first show, aptly named "The First Show" will feature twenty leading architects and designers and will also be launched at The Compound Interest Centre on Thursday March 10.
I've always had a soft spot for Lamington Drive, and while the lamingtons may have something to do with this, they're definitely not the sole reason. Everything about this gallery is humble. Its quirky name sparks visions of chocolate, coconut, sponge cake and cuddly grandmothers and there's a genuine dedication to the artists which it represents. So send summer off with a bang, a beer and a lamington.
