Look on the bright side

No Worries at No Vacancy

By Hannah Colless, 13 October 2010

If you feel like you need some positive affirmation this week but self-help books and corny bumper stickers aren’t exactly your thing then you’re definitely in need of a Positive Posters hit.

From today until October 19 No Vacancy Gallery is hosting ‘Thirty,’ an exhibition of the top 30 posters from this year’s Positive Posters competition. With more than 1500 entries from 72 countries choosing only 30 finalists wasn’t an easy feat. Each poster has been chosen for its ability to visually challenge and inspire the viewer and the result is a quirky and vibrant exhibition, which will truly make you smile, chuckle and experience spontaneous bursts of positivity.

Opening night is Thursday October 14 from 7pm-9.30pm where the winner will be announced. The event is hosted by No Vacancy Gallery (QV building. Enter via Russel St.) and drinks are provided to kick off the celebrations. 3500+ copies of the winning poster will be plastered around Melbourne streets and sent around the world to remind us to keep our ‘glass half full.’  The first round of the Melbourne distributions will happen on that night.

Positive Posters is in its second year, and is the baby of Melbourne graphic designer Nick Hallam along with his passionate and helpful team. They believe that graphic designers have a unique ability to communicate visually, and urge designers from all over the world to use these skills to help others in a non-commercial way- for good, rather than evil.

In the last 2 years Positive Posters has received entrants from countries including China, USA, UK, Ukraine, Jamaica, Iran and Bolivia, which is proof that the message is being heard and responded to around the globe.

Come along on Thursday night for not just one, but 30 positive affirmations. That’s enough to make even Eeyore smile.
