Be Positive

Nobody likes a negative Nancy

By Hannah Colless, 13 July 2010

Positive Posters is an organisation run by a bunch of young Melbournians who are on a mission to show that graphic design can help people. Their aim is to challenge and inspire people to make a positive change in the way they live their lives through a yearly graphic design competition.

This year's theme is "a glass half full" and marks the second of this now yearly competition. Nick Hallam, co-founder of Positive Posters said, “ We started the competition last year with no expectations but ended up with 339 entries, from 53 countries. The third most amount of entries from Iran. We are still trying to figure that one out!”

I’ve never before considered graphic design as a powerful tool to help people. Mad graphic design skills isn’t exactly the super power that every child dreams of but don’t underestimate this visual medium. As soon as you see some of the entries you won't be frowning anymore.

Entry is free, prizes are amazing and Positive Posters will print 4000 copies of the winning design, paste it around Melbourne and send a few off around the globe too.

The winner will also get Adobe CS5, Wacom Intuos 4 Tablet, Pantone Colour Bridge, IdN Feature Article, IdN Subscription, Spook Mag Subscription, Fat Clothing Voucher and a Keep Cup. If making people happy isn't inspiration enough then I'm sure all these juicy prizes will be.

So start spreading the joy because no-one likes a negative Nancy. But you’d better get doodling soon if you want to beat the Iranians.
