It's bigger, it's better and it's brand new. Lamington Drive is upgrading to a residence of vaster proportions (10,000 square ft to be exact) in Collingwood. As sad as it is to farewell the beloved Fitzroy dwelling it's time for Lamington Drive and the Compound Interest Group to stretch their legs in a new spacious home.
Just as when your best friend moves house it must be warmed good and proper. This housewarming/relaunch is taking place on Thursday September 2nd from 6-9pm and doubles as the opening of Eamo Donnelly's "Health Food of a Nation", the first exhibition to pop the new location's cherry and let's hope it does it with gusto.
"Health Food of a Nation" carries themes of nostalgia. Award-winning and internationally acclaimed illustrator, Eamo Donnelly takes us back to a more humble Australian landscape where milk bars reigned & everyone knew their neighbour's names. You will find an almost museum-like collection of milk bar memorabilia, newspapers, stickers, posters, his personal Australian TV arhive of BETA and VHS from the 60s to the 80s and of course you'll see some of the intricate hand-inked, character driven illustations he's best known for.
So come and help Melbourne's most loved gallery settle into its new home and don't worry they didn't leave the lamingtons behind.
