Factory reshaping culture

Quirky culture. Made in Oxford Art Factory.

By Zoe Ferguson, 16 April 2010

Oxford Art Factory (OAF), Darlinghurst, is a two room, multi-functional venue which has restructured entertainment in Sydney.

Inspired by Andy Warhol’s Factory in New York during the 1960s, the Factory creates a cultural focal point for international and local artists.

OAF’s three-tiered enterprise, comprised of ‘The Gallery’, ‘The Art after Dark Bar’ and ‘The Live Art Space’. Each area of the venue has the capacity to work as a stand-alone entity whilst also operating as a combined and coherent business. As its name suggests, ‘art’ provides the framework for this venue concept, and throughout it creates a showcase for visual art, performance art and live music.

Its visual art has a home on OAF’s tall, wide brick walls. Either painted or graffiti’d, they’re always loved by various artists. The walls always have new faces but each one is big, wonderful and hard not to stare at.

For upcoming shows keep an eye on the Factory’s website, but keep in mind they’re not ‘pedestrian’ bands, but more underground, off-the-wall, up-and-coming, better-than-that-guy-in-the-corner bands, so all in all, much more fun than the swimmers in the mainstream.
Enjoy the Factory, it’s specially shaped its space for you; the funky, quirky cool kid who wants a new entertainment hub.
