Touch the sky

Take time out to reconnect

By Zoe Ferguson, 16 August 2010

If you're after an escape from the grind of city life, or from the regular, everyday monotonous routine, then grab a seat at the Opera House and be uplifted and transported by beautiful bodies to a natural and spiritual place.

Having achieved their 20th year in 2009, Artistic Director Stephen Page celebrates the past, present and future of Bangarra Dance with an astoundingly breath-taking double bill, Of Earth & Sky currently gracing the stage in the Drama Theatre, Opera House. Page, along with choreographers Frances Rings and Daniel Riley McKinley, have created a wonderfully fluid piece of work that reconnects and conquers the elements in a physical depiction of the connection between the physical and the meta-physical.

Bangarra is consistently remarkable in its ability to transfer Indigenous traditions and beliefs where non-Indigenous people can witness and revel in the importance of bringing these stories and dances to the stage. So don’t miss out and enjoy this surreal theatrical experience of visual art, spiritual objects, life and metamorphosis.
