Natural obscurity

The abstract nature of nature

By Hannah Colless, 09 March 2011

"Abstract Nature" is a new show opening at SEVENTH Gallery on March 16 where Malcolm Lloyd, Mia Kenway and Craig Burgess investigate abstraction in our surroundings, through found, acquired and recycled objects.

When exploring our everyday environment the juxtaposition of naturally occuring events and mistakes illuminate the idiosyncrasies of the world around us. "Abstract Nature" is the artists' responses to this organic obscurity, which can be taken for granted.

SEVENTH Gallery is a non-profit exhibition space, run by Melbourne-based contemporary artists. It acts as a platform for both up-and-coming and established artists and aims to create dialogue between artists of differing disciplines and stages in their careers.

So make "Abstract Nature" your mid-week culture hit on Wednesday March 16. Come have a beverage and find the irregularity in the regular.
