Zimmermann's caged

Zimmermann at RAFW SS11

By Kat George, 04 May 2010

Known for dynamic prints and race wear, Zimmermann held true in respect of the former at Rosemount Australian Fashion Week, but challenged that preconception held by so many- that Zimmermann produces formal dresses for affluent high school girls- and soldiered on in it’s fashion forward campaign. Futuristic styling punctuated what was otherwise a fairly standard, romantically soft Zimmermann collection, and the effect was felt throughout the room, as a constant whisper of approval murmured within the crowd.

Cropped tops with high necks and sashaying laser cut hems caught my attention, but what really stole the show were Zimmermann’s masterfully crafted cage dresses and shirts. Mixing delicacy with structuralism, Zimmermann took a feminine floral print and used silhouette to turn it into something unapologetically powerful. Layering print over print to create movement and dynamism, Zimmermann are etching out a wonderful little niche for themselves in Australian fashion as an accessible, girl friendly label with subtle hints of avant garde to keep the fashion savvy satisfied.
