A Seamless Night at Seamstress

By Hannah Colless, 10 August 2011

113 Lonsdale Street has everything one needs for a night out. The three levels of this ex-textiles factory/warehouse/Buddhist Monastry are taken up by Seamstress and Sweatshop- two venues that once again prove Melbourne's superiority in the world of wining and dining, and a healthy dose of boozing.

The more demure Seamstress is upstairs, stretching over two levels- the first serving elegant food, and the top level bar boasting multi award-winning cocktails. The service at Seamstress is seamless. Waitstaff know their food and wine, while barstaff can master any cocktail request you dare to throw at them.

Seamstress's grungier counterpart, Sweatshop, lurks down in The Basement. It's cosy, intimate and dimly lit, making it a seductive late night watering hole. The atmosphere is more laid back than Seamstress but the drink list is just as tantalising and each drink perfectly prepared.

Seamstress and Sweatshop work together like a successful date. Things start off classy and civilised, but end up cosy, sweaty, and (at the risk of sounding crass) tend to move downstairs. It's the perfect night out without the walk of shame...unless you want one, that is.
