Typically a monosyllabic Australian name, Bill's identity and connotations have been rejuvenated, now associated with amazing ricotta hotcakes and delicious corn fritters, Bill has a new face, and you can see it at more than one place.
Bill Granger's 'bills' (in Darlinghurst, Woollahra, Surry Hills, Yokohama and Shichirigahama) has such an open, warm and homely feel and taste it's hard not to want to just sleep on the big communal table into the next day to enjoy all the different meals, which let's face it, are all yummy.
Visiting bills in Darlinghurst, there's a line out front. Good start? Well, it could go either way - too many people and a wait for food and coffee, or if the service is great, no wait and a smooth delivery of all orders. Lucky it was the latter. Their service is friendly, always attentive and without hiccups. Very refreshing, I must say. As for their food and coffee, they were all so good I've been dreaming about it for days now.
For breakfast, try bills' famous Ricotta hotcakes, fresh banana and honeycomb butter - they truly are delicious. Or give the Sweet corn fritters with roast tomato, spinach and bacon a go - they're honestly the best corn fritters I've had for years (my late grandmother's were unbeatable...but Bill comes close!) If you're hungry for lunch, get your hands around the Wagyu beef burger with beetroot, zucchini pickles and fries. De-lic.
All in all, bills was delicious, a great visit and a lovely setting, with its open, light interior and easy-going yet dutiful service, it's definitely worth a visit...whether you're in Sydney or Yokohama.
