Melbourne's west is a commonly forgotten domain and unless living in the area or in need of a Savers stock up, people rarely venture in that direction. However, as people catch on to the little gems tucked away that side of the city, things will start to change, and judging by the hordes of hungry folk sipping on perfect lattes and munching on steamy paninis at Yarraville's Cornershop, word has already reached farther shores.
The name is fittingly quaint for this humble corner dwelling. Cornershop is located on one of Yarraville's cute, picture-perfect streets, with a view of the Sun Theatre across the road completing the sense of small town charm. Inside, a thoughtful aesthetic makes customers feel at home- dark wood contrasted with pale teal, ornamental wire light fittings that give the impression of glowing bubbles and a communal table adorned with flowers.
The food is sophisticated, yet simple, with both a Middle Eastern and Mediterranean influence guiding the flavours on the menu. Serving breakfast, brunch, lunch and dinner a few nights of the week, Cornershop keeps tummies happy all day long.
As for the question of caffeine, standards are just as high this side of the city as anywhere else in Melbourne and the baristas at Cornershop pump out mouthwatering coffee with the best of them.
