Having opened in November 2009, this unassuming, unpretentious cafe has made its mark on Crown St, in a cafe loaded suburb. But what has made Four Ate Five Cafe so special, and why is it hailed as Sydney’s first five-star cafe? Take a bite and your singing palette will instantly tell you why...
Four Ate Five’s playfulness with food and their culinary skills embark on an experimental journey to concoct perfect breakfasts, delicious juices and divine Single Origin coffee. For breakfast try the Moroccan baked eggs which add spice to straight breakfasts, served with almonds, labne and grilled bread or indulge your sweet tooth and sink it into the French toast, with a comforting ménage et trois of bananas, mascarpone and rhubarb, served with maple syrup. For a dry mouth try the delicious fresh juices; apple, pineapple and mint or a peppermint tea...and forget tea bags, you get a glass of hot water infusing fresh mint leaves. Gorgeous.
Lunch is equally delicious, combining simplicity with an organic and fresh twist. They bake their own pies, either free-range chicken or pumpkin and eggplant, and create towering sandwiches which sound overly simple but taste otherwise. The roast beef on grilled sourdough is accompanied by a tangy mix of fresh tomato, onion relish, polski ogorki and cos lettuce, while the famous pulled pork number comes with pickled carrot and radish, apple and tomato chutney, aioli and rocket. Of course, you can wrap your hands around a burger instead with cheddar cheese melted on the patty, pickled beetroot, onion, lettuce and tomato, which comes with tasty hand-cut chips, all nubbly and golden with their skins still on.
There's no doubt this cafe will seduce you, so upon your journey along Crown St pop in for a fresh juice, or dig in to their playful, tasty takes on breakfast staples.
