Get Hooked

By Tania Goode, 11 October 2011

There is nothing like a bit of spring sunshine and slightly warmer weather at this time of year to give us a bit of teaser that the best things about summer are on the way. And by this we mean hot nights, daylight savings, sandy feet from a day on the beach and of course fish and chips. We are not talking traditional fish and chips here, we are talking Hooked. Opened in 2006 owner Ray Good has created a fresh, healthy alternative to the traditional fare and if you have not been acquainted with their offerings it is time you do.

Hooked has launched a new “west coast” themed menu for summer after a trip to New York sampling the city's Taco trucks and Oyster Bars. Collaborating with Neale White from Melbourne’s Papa Goose the pair have created a menu of items  including Grilled Barramundi Burger ($13.90),  Fish Taco ($8.90), shucked oysters and Grilled Tuna Nicoise Salad ($17.90) all of which can all be washed down with the newly introduced boutique offerings of True South Pale Ale or Little Miss Muppet Cider on Tap. For the chip connoisseurs out there Hooked hand cut 2 tonnes of local grown potatoes each week and they are certainly among the best chips around.

The good news is that with two locations at 172 Chapel St Windsor and 384 Brunswick St Fitzroy it is convenient for those of us residing both north and south of the river.  We are particularly fond of the beer garden at the Fitzroy location perfect for basking in the sunshine with a taco in one hand, cider in the other. A Hooked visit this summer will have you planning your next visit before you have even finished your first Barramundi Burger.
