From beer on tap to a budget-blowing bottle of Don Perignon, from pizza to prosciutto with pickled melon, Trunk has something for everyone.
The building that houses Trunk was built in 1859 as one of Melbourne’s first Synagogues and Hebrew schools and today it has one of the biggest beer gardens in the CBD. For decades it has been a place for people to gather, which is just one reason this romantic haven amidst a jungle of skyscrapers is so unique. Scattered with fairy lights, buzzing with chatter and infused with history, Trunk is unlike any other bar or restaurant in Melbourne.
Despite the sheer size of the venue, the restaurant section feels surprisingly private and personal so you can still have an intimate dinner with mood lighting and an impressive menu. The staff are effortlessly professional, yet friendly and relaxed. There’s something a little bit tongue in cheek about the whole place- it’s classy without taking itself too seriously.
The menu is diverse and extensive with modern Italian-inspired cuisine and a wide range of local and international beer, wines and cocktails. A selection of small plates act as a teaser with cured meats and cheeses that melt in your mouth, or why don't you test the aphrodisiac theory with some freshly shucked oysters? The salad of witlof, pear, gorgonzola and walnut with vinaigrette casts a whole new light on flavour and the mains offer a large selection from roast lamb rack or crispy skin blue eye to gourmet pizzas and pastas.
For a sophisticated dinner or laid-back beer, Trunk is a versatile venue that has secured its position in Melbourne's vibrant food and wine scene.
