Madame’s Living Room

Kick Grandma Out and Relax With Friends

By Zoe Ferguson, 10 June 2010

In the heart of Newtown is a stylish and comfortable restaurant, Soni’s. Walking through its European charm there awaits a narrow staircase. Ascending the stairs a warm glow washes over you, the sound of indie beats and the metallic shaking of a cocktail mixer. Turn left and you’ve walked into your Grandmother’s hijacked living room, with the mismatched lounges, vintage lampshades and art deco wallpaper. Welcome to Madame Fling Flong, your new sitting room.

If you’re out with the girls, or after a quiet drink with close friends, Madame Fling Flong will make you feel at home instantly with its intimate room packed with big, soft, colourful armchairs and lounges to swallow you up.

Mixing you delicious cocktails, the bartenders are fantastic at knowing what you’re after before you do. Echoing downstairs’ Mediterranean affair, this Madame can offer delicious Mezze Plates, Cheese Platters and Tapas for nibbles.

If you find yourself at home on a Tuesday evening, twiddling your thumbs and wishing some cool bar had a projection screen playing old-school movies, dishing up mezze plates with wine for a mere $20, then you’re late for Madame’s weekly special. Make a booking and turn up before 8pm every Tuesday to see great classics such as Pretty Woman, Saturday Night Fever and Dirty Dancing.

It seems Grandma has it down – great décor, delicious food and exploding cocktails with entertainment to boot, you’re lucky to have such a visionary in the family.
