Pendolino offers an exquisite dining experience in the heart of Sydney’s city, in the beautifully historic Strand Arcade, George St. The name Pendolino, as explained to us by the gracious waitstaff, is derivative of the arms of an olive tree, symbolising fertility and paying homage to the olive, representative among Pendolino’s wide olive-oil range.

You won’t believe your eyes, nor your tongue, when you experience this Italian mastery. Stepping out of the lift onto second floor, you take a double-take to check you’re still in the Strand Arcade. With soft lighting, European chairs, wall ornaments casting elegant shadows on the exposed brick work, Pendolino welcomes you with an authentic, rustic air. Whether you sit inside among bookshelves, spiralled dividers and olive-tree decorations, or on the internal balcony overlooking the Strand’s architecture, you know you’ll be well looked after by these passionate Italians.

Their exquisite culinary skills and superb wine list (and knowledge) will make your palette sing. I suggest the Char Grilled Quail, or the Steamed Ocean Trout for a satisfying yet refreshing main. Or for the more hunger-stricken diners, I recommend the beautifully Slow-Roasted Fennel and Rosemary Scented Pork Belly…amazing. As for desserts, again for lighter eaters, the Campari Poached Pear Tart is stunning whilst the Warm Chocolate Hazelnut Pudding with Gold Leaf (chocolate and gold…can it get any better?) is a chocolate-lovers must-have.

For wine-lovers, Pendolino offers a delicious range of wine to select from, along with a refreshing education of Olive Oil. The L’Olioteca - meaning “Oil Library” - is also available as a private dining area, seating from 12 up to 56 guests, with a selection of set function menus to choose from. They hold olive oil master-classes as well as food and wine matching events and cooking demonstrations in this uniquely intimate space.

All in all, Pendolino offers a wonderful experience and a sensation to any palette.
