Get your laundry done

Plain time-management. Laundry & Drinking.

By Zoe Ferguson, 26 September 2011

If there was something missing in our small bar revolution then it was definitely laundry. So Thank God for Darlie Laundromatic’s arrival, allowing us to have a tipple amongst hanging laundry, instead of doing our own...oh well.

This bar oozes cas and cool. If it was any more casual it would have a BYO bar (don’t know whether it’s a good or bad thing that it’s not that casual...we’ll say that it’s a positive thing). But that’s not to say the quality of service, product and atmosphere is lax. It’s absolutely thick with excitement, fun and general happiness. All the things you’d usually expect from a Laundromat, right?

Darlie Laundromatic is located at the top of Palmer Street, in that old, kind of ‘stay away’ looking Laundromat, around the corner from Shady Pines Saloon. But this Laundromat has had a facelift, an injection of style and it’s ready to rock your socks off.
With a menu offering delicious lunches and dinners, with star items such as the mushroom steak sandwich (grilled field mushroom on sourdough with truss tomato, zesty rocket caramelised onion and harissa aioli) or if you’re feeling more generous to your friends, share the Laundry Plowmans Platter (Afghan flat bread with vintage cheddar, dill pickles, hot sopressa, chilli jam and quinoa tabouli) Or if you’re just after a cheeky nibble, try the mini chilli (hot) dog. Yum oh yum oh yum.

Their fresh homemade organic cordials are deliciously sweet, both in nature and taste wise. You can have them with or without vodka, in the following flavours: raspberry & ginger, sour apple, pear & maple and passionfruit. But don’t worry, they also have a good selection of beers and wines so you don’t have to convert to the novelty cordial concoctions if you don’t want to.

Now to look up from the delicious plate of food and full glass of vodka cordial in front of you and take a look around. The look is minimalistic yet homely. First to grab your eye are the aqua walls lined with old 1970s hunting scenes and horse portraits. And first to grab your heart are the tea towels hanging on the makeshift clothesline out the back, the “Oh my God I love bingo, even though I’m not 80” bingo ball bucket on the floor and the plethora of grandma “it’s so old it’s now retro and cool’ bric-a-brac just...around.

Oh, and there are events. Get your vocal chords warmed up for the Rock’n’Roll Bingo (every Tuesday, 6–10pm) or your dancing shoes on for the DJ nights with Sydney’s best DJ’s..

It’s a sweet bar, with a sweet idea with sweet quirks. Get on in, have a tipple, a bit of a nibble, and maybe a bit of a tickle of that secret bingo love you’ve been hiding for so long...
