Lattes and lollies

Satisfy Your Sweet Tooth at the corner Store

By Hannah Colless, 20 May 2010

Grigons and Orr Corner Store has all the goodies that excited you as a kid like red frogs, Fads and those creepy pink and white lollies that look like teeth, but it has grown up things too like coffee and Bircher muesli. It takes you back to your childhood without revisiting traumatic memories. It's the perfect balance.

The quaint interior is small and snug with bric-a-brac of crocheted tea cosies and ornate teaspoons. It’s a bit like your grandma’s house minus the mothballs. There’s also plenty of outdoor footpath space for al fresco dining in the sun and if the sun is nowhere to be seen there’s a collection of crocheted blankets inside to cocoon yourself in while you munch your way through their yummy menu.

Sink your sweet tooth into childhood favourites like ice cream sundaes, banana splits and spiders, which will turn even the most macho patron into a screaming kid again. But the menu isn’t all just fun and games. Exotic combinations will appeal to your more mature side, like apple fritters with hazelnuts, caramel sauce and mascarpone, dusted with minted sugar; couscous porridge with coconut cream, goji berries, toasted almonds, coconut and honey; or the delicious Shakshouka of baked Israeli eggs and spicy Napoli sauce served with yoghurt.

It’s almost impossible to choose from the consistently scrumptious menu, not to mention deciding which lollies to stuff your pockets with before you leave.
