Give me some sugar

Satisfy your sweet tooth

Sugardough Panificio and Patisserie has a lot going for it, and when you walk in the door, you’ll see that there’s a lot going on. First of all, there’s often a line winding around the café from the counter; this shouldn’t deter you, but rather serve as a testament to the quality of what’s on offer. Make your way through the queue of Sugardough zombies (they can’t think rationally, they just want more and more deliciousness), and you’ll realise that the place is utterly cute.

There are heart-shaped kitchen utensils and mismatched saucers on the walls, and a shelf jam-packed with teacups of all shapes and sizes. It’s only a matter of time before the sweets attract your attention, and they do indeed look wonderful. Pastries, slices, tarts, and their famous (in some circles) muffin selection all sit behind glass, winking at you as the light hits their glaze. Atop the counter sits a cupcake platter and a long row of jars holding all kinds of biscuits. See, downright adorable.

Of course, you should have something savoury to prepare yourself for the onslaught of treats. The “panificio” in the café’s name means that they bake bread as well as sweets, and their full menu and sandwich display should not be overlooked. Sugardough serves breakfast and lunch, both of which are bustling. If you weren’t surrounded by wooden spoons and cake tins, the crowd might be frustrating, but it’s practically impossible to get angry around all that quaintness.

One of the best things about Sugardough is their courtyard. It’s tidy and spacious, and decorated in the same country kitchen style as the café. Potted plants rest on nearly every surface, and little knick-knacks are here, there, and everywhere. It’s very peaceful and highly sought after in the summertime, so if you go on a warm day, prepare to share the courtyard with a gaggle of Sugardough-goers. You can’t resist, so how can anyone else?
