Smell the roses in Gertrude & Alice's garden

By Zoe Ferguson, 21 May 2010

Being inspired by the wondrous tale of Gertrude and Alice in their artistic adventures through the 20th century, Bondi homes a delicious little café bookstore for those who are inspired, challenged and moved through reading, writing, acting and the visual arts. In the midst of this passionate heartbeat throbs Gertrude & Alice, two friends you won’t want to say goodbye to.

This café bookstore is such a pleasure to visit every time, with its homely warmth I never want to leave the cushiest couch, or put down the great novel I randomly selected off the shelf. With over 25,000 titles of books bought and sold, every book tells its own story of where it’s come from and how it got adopted into this wonderful new home.

Combining two great loves to share with the public, owner Jane Turner offers good books and good food to create the simplest yet most enjoyable duo. Falling in love with voices singing from the pages, you’ll never want to stop consuming the soul-food served up by this sensorium of a bookstore.
