Some of Sydney’s previously ‘coarse’ areas are getting facelifts, funk-lifts and in this instance, a moustache. Taking the lead for Redfern’s stylish upgrade, Baffi & Mo offers locals and newbies alike an easy-going yet impressively suave café experience.
Aesthetically, it’s bright and open without feeling ‘too modern’ and ‘sterile’…you know the feeling. There’s a large communal table which dominates the space, surrounded by several smaller tables and chairs, however if you’re like me and enjoy people-watching, then perch at the big table, it’s a great spot to watch the goings-on of Redfern Street, bustling outside.
The menu is simple, to the point, oh-so delicious and oh-wow generous. If you were to ask "What’s the best bet for breakfast?" they’ll bring you their specialty; the Eggs Baffi with roasted mushrooms, feta and spinach. If you’re craving a hangover cure, however, try the potato hash stack with ham, avocado, tomato and asparagus topped with a poached egg. And don’t even question the quality of the coffee, it’s beautifully mastered and co-owner Lou used to be a barista trainer for Lavazza so there’s consistency of quality at work here.
Baffi (Italian for moustache) & Mo is a lovely café slash restaurant slash hangout slash new-fangled member for Redfern, so don’t wait until Movember to get into the swing of things, get your Mo on now.
