Something about Prudence makes you want to sit with a big glass of red wine and write poetry. Don’t ask me why. Maybe it’s the mellow, bohemian atmosphere. Or the dark corners and comfy booths to hide in. Or it could just be the likes of Nick Cave and Lou Reed throbbing from the speakers.
Regardless, it’s the ideal place to sit for hours, on your lonesome or with some company and there’s plenty of space to get cosy. Downstairs has intimate booths and a fully stocked bar with a long list of beer, wines and cocktails. There is a spacious courtyard out the back for your smoking pleasure and up the narrow staircase of this once-upon-a-time terrace house you’ll find tables with numerous chairs scattered around them, for large groups to share jugs of beer and play a game of scrabble if it takes their fancy.
With heavy velvet curtains, chandeliers, Persian rugs and some Balinese-inspired carved wood everything about this bar is homely, yet seductive. It’s the sort of place you fall in love with, obsess over and visit night after night. It’s a bit like a lover but, unlike lovers, Prudence will never let you down…and won’t laugh at you if you’ve had a few too many.
