Small Bar gets big

This Just In: Small Is The New Big

By Zoe Ferguson, 07 May 2010

I don’t think I’ve been this excited about a local bar. Having lived in Crows Nest all my life I’ve been disappointed with the local choices, being either pubs or restaurants. No niche bars, no lovely courtyards, no style. Enter Small Bar.

After its first-born’s success on Erskine St, the north shore has embraced Small Bar’s second offspring nestled in Crows Nest. Even mid-week this ‘small’ bar is packed. And why shouldn’t it be?

Sydney is finally awakening to the fact that it’s the small things that count. People want intimacy, ambience, character and quality. With its unpretentious cool, Small Bar proves the power of the petit. The homely interior’s exposed brickwork adds texture to the manicured walls lined with candles, mirrors and mismatched ornaments. With warm lighting and booths lining the wall, it’s welcoming, comforting and cosy. As you walk down the slender floorboard walkway it naturally leads you into the picturesque courtyard with a romantic fairy-lit vineyard canopy, comforting patrons sitting beneath in garden chairs, with a concave bricked bar home to a range of beautiful wines for any palette.

For goodies there are delicious wines, boutique beers and simple yet satisfying cuisine, from antipasto plates to hearty burgers, everyone can feel satisfied with the small things.

So for any locals like myself, welcome to your new haunt, and for any city-dwellers, take the trip across the bridge to the north shore because Small Bar will surprise you with its appetite for style. It’s worth a trip to this aptly named establishment, even to simply appreciate and venture down this new path paved for Sydney’s bar life. Great things come in small packages, so get unwrapping at Small Bar.
