Located in Darlinghurst, in a quiet street behind Oxford St and its bustling traffic and crowds, Doctor Pong offers an electric vibe, great music, and best of all…Ping Pong!
Occupying the spacious, airy room that was once Chicane, Doctor Pong wholly embraces the unfussy concept of the Berlin original but on a larger scale. With huge open windows looking across the outdoor street seating, its inside is dominated by a ping-pong table, decks, rows of 'Chesterfields' and a dining area.
With low lighting of candles and exposed large lightbulbs followed by artistic wire drapings on the ceiling it’s hard not to look good in this place. Large leather couches, pop-art hanging on the walls, and a mirror-house of a bathroom (dizzying yet exhilarating!) it’s always a fun visit.
The only thing was that I felt the ping-pong table looked a little lonely and could do with a buddy…that and the long line to play ping-pong. But besides that, after the wait over a drink, the novelty ping-pong game was entertaining and had an innocent feel to it, adding to the fun, carefree ambience and crowd of Doctor Pong’s.
Prices range for beers from $7, wine from $7/$22 and food from $14 (yes, the Doctor serves food) and operating hours are 11:30am-2am Tuesdays-Saturdays and 11:30am-10pm Sundays.
