Breakfast is meant to be the most important meal of the day and I like to treat it that way. Therefore I’m always in search for the perfect place to enjoy it. Bacon- perfectly crispy. Eggs- not too runny. It sounds easy, right? Wrong. That’s why when you find a place like Fandango it must be remembered.
Watch your step because you could easily miss it while strolling up Errol Street. The tiny shop front doesn’t give much away but don’t be shy to go inside where you’ll find a relaxed café decorated in ‘70s inspired warm browns and burnt oranges with cookie jars and freshly baked muffins atop the counter. There’s something very homely about Fandango- a little bit Brady Bunch perhaps. The cosy interior is perfect for a grey winter’s day. Or if you’re more of the outdoorsy type there’s plenty of room in the courtyard out the back.
The reasonably priced menu is chock-full of delicious creations with fresh and colourful ingredients. Some notable choices are the pesto scrambled eggs and the beetroot and fetta relish. Or for something a bit more indulgent try the apricot and date loaf with honeyed cream cheese. Plus all the favourites are on offer like a good old-fashioned BLAT or bacon and egg sandwich.
Fandango is cute, cosy and so friendly you’ll always feel like a local, even if you’ve hiked all the way across Melbourne just to be there. Breakfast goes all day for big city snoozers and lunch is from 11. It's one of those places you keep going back to. Yummy food, smiley staff and a cosy atmosphere make it a favourite among even the fussiest café dwellers.
