Hayley Mary is the lead singer of Sydney based band, The Jezabels. With two EPs and a few national tours under their belt, they seem destined for big things.
How long have you been writing songs?
Since I was about seven. So...fifteen years.
What's in store for the band this year?
We're writing a new EP and hopefully recording that soon. Also, this month we're touring with Tegan and Sara for the second time.
What's...
...the best venue to see live music in Sydney?
I'm a big fan of The Annandale Hotel. Oxford Art Factory is newer but getting better and better.
...the best place for an afternoon beer in Sydney?
The Carlisle Castle Hotel in Newtown. It's got great food too. The bistro is owned by the same person as the restaurant Oscillate Wildly. Or if you're looking for somewhere busier and more upbeat there's the Courthouse, which is also in Newtown.
...your favourite place for breakfast in Sydney?
The Book Kitchen on Devonshire Street, Surry Hills. I'm obsessed with their Bircher muesli. I've been telling everyone about it. People look at me like a weirdo. Opposite that is Bourke Street Bakery, which is also a contender for best breakfast. And Single Origin Roasters on Reservoir Street, Surry Hills, has really good coffee and is run by really nice and idealistic people.
