The Future Of Melbourne Music

Kristina Miltiadou Talks Melbourne

By Kat George, 22 March 2011

She's young, vibrant, beautiful, talented and on the rise; Melbourne's newest pop-sensation, Kristina Miltiadou, is anything but shy, and we can see why. With a contingent of loyal fans already, Kristina is selling out venues all along the East Coast and building an army around her; an army of dancing, floral, carefree party-goers, which, in our books, is the perfect kind of army. Feisty and tenacious, it would be a mistake to be misled by the captivatingly whimsical tones of her voice- and impossible not to find her completely arresting. We took a moment to talk to Kristina about her dreams for the future, and what she loves best about her home town of Melbourne...

Who is Kristina Miltiadou?
Hectic Super Lady.

Tell us what the future holds for you...
I want to basically do everything I possibly can with my music and my amazing band, share my passion for music and movement and people as much as a I can for as long as I can and get people dancing uncontrollably all over the world with big ass smiles on their faces.

What's…

… your favourite place to shop in Melbourne?

This new place I discovered on Brunswick St opposite Souvlaki King. A portion of all money made goes to the Red Cross so I feel better about spending all the money I don’t really have there...

... the best coffee in Melbourne?
Mmmm, I can’t remember the name but it’s around the corner from Gardenvale Station in East Brighton, at the end of the main strip. So creamy, and they have blankets for you to rug up in! The other I would say is Rathdowne Foodstore on Rathdowne St.

... the best place to eat in Melbourne?
I'd have to say Naked For Satan (50cent tapas lunch zomgz) or the pizza place on level 2 at the Melbourne Central Food Court; oh, and Vegie Bar for their mexican burrito seeing as burritos and pizza are the two things I crave every day of my life and the places I just mentioned make the best I've ever eaten (aside from my homemade burritos, they are fucking dope).

… your favourite live music venue in Melbourne?
The Forum. I have to play there one day. It’s like a dream.

... the ultimate night out in Melbourne?
Ooh. I'd say its the night that never ends. Saturday pre drinks in the park, crashing a house party then jamming in the street ‘til we can't jam no more, shirts off Sundays followed by $2 pot Mondays at the Workers Club to top it all off. We definitely know how to have a good time.

... your favourite new Melbourne band?
It’s a three way tie. Redberryplum, Sam Lawrence and Tully & the Thief. Insane vibes.
