As a Sydney-sider on my first trip to Melbourne, I was lucky enough to stay at what I had heard was an iconic building and stunning hotel right in Melbourne’s CBD. In the heart of Melbourne’s city throbs this boutique hotel with its stunning architecture, welcoming out-of-towners like myself with open, very nicely groomed and styled arms. And so I felt I had to write about The Lindrum Hotel, to pass on the whisper of this city gem.
The five-storey building that is The Lindrum was first constructed in the 1900s, contextually reflecting the Romanesque Revival style popular at the time in Flinders Street, reasoning its classic look and feel.
Passed through many hands of rentals and ownership, in 1973 the building was leased by Walter Lindrum’s niece Dolly who transformed it into a hub of billiards and snooker for fifteen years.
In 1995 the concept of Hotel Lindrum was born, introducing a new style of property to Melbourne, and the Lindrum itself being amongst the first chic boutique hotels to enter the market.
I hugely enjoyed my stay at The Lindrum, its architecturally innovative contemporary design deviated from commercial mainstream hotels and invigorated a domestic intimacy, which I found so refreshing.
With its own restaurant, bar, lounge with fireplace, health club and room service (including massages and facials!) the Lindrum’s 24 hour service never takes a breather. This is a magnificent hotel so if you’re going to enjoy Melbourne in style and be well looked after then let the Lindrum tuck you in.
