Still Waters Run Deep

A Label By Any Other Name

By Kat George, 01 June 2011

Still waters run deep—and now they’ve run across the oceans, weaving magic in the sartorial fibre that keeps Australians hooked on New Zealand style. NZ label Twenty-Seven Names has found its niche in Sydney (cross the Eastern seaboard, and reaching over as far as the West coast) with a series of romantic portraits showcasing its AW11 collection, ‘Still Waters Run Deep.’ Whimsical and enigmatic, the portraits of Twenty-Seven Names clad models are haunting in their beauty. The portraits were displayed in Sydney (and became a fast favourite with top fashion magazine RUSSH) as part of the label’s antipodean AW11 campaign.

Twenty-Seven Names was born in 2006 and has garnered a cult like following across Australia and its homeland of New Zealand. Designers Rachel Easting and Anjali Stewart (art and fashion graduates respectively) find inspiration in contemporary art, while the Still Waters Run Deep collection is inspired by Japanese More Girls—their simple, placid nature—with the all the beautiful secrets that reside beneath their stoic façades. Interspersed with the cutest of heart prints in sorbet shades, the depth is in the detail—a very quiet, very powerful scream.
