It’s a widely appreciated fact: Australians like to claim the best of New Zealand for our greedy, grubby own. Think Russell Crowe, pavlova and Phar Lap. Now, it seems, we’re biting their style too (but thankfully not claiming it as our own!), as Nom*D sits pretty in the heart of Melbourne’s most fashionable Fitzroy. With men’s and women’s fashion from New Zealand, Australia, and across the globe, Nom*D is both subversive and accessible- the hallmark of Kiwi style. With eponymous leading New Zealand label Nom*D at the helm, the store is an unmissable feast of some of the most directional and inspirational young designers from across the globe.
Featuring Bernhard Wilhelm, DRK SHDW,
NOM*d, Zambesi, Therese Rawsthorne, AF Vandevorst and Preen, the Nom*D store embodies the zeitgeist. From Dunedin, Nom*D combines street wear with expert tailoring and a certain unaffectedness that is hard to resist. But don’t be intimated by any of this or the minimal, super cool façade of the store. The staff are friendly and the clothes are covetable- there’re something for everyone’s wardrobe from shoes to dresses to knitwear. And once you’ve had your shopping fix, head a few doors down for lunch at Arcadia or a cocktail at South Paw. An afternoon that would be pretty difficult to regret.
