The dapper gentleman and the urban Melbournite collide in a spectacular tousle from which menswear label From Britten emerges. There is something elemental and sartorially apocalyptic about the referential nature of From Britten’s AW11 collection. Indeed, the designers themselves—a pair of almost identical brothers from Melbourne—say the collection was born of “a culmination of influences and inspired thoughts”.
Indeed, the brothers cite Early 20th Centure Engineers as one of their myriad influences; “their attire is rough, textural, colourless and tonal.” They also look to the Gattaca aesthetic for “clean, sharp, elegant and slightly twisted” elements. What ensues is a collection that is as functional as it is stylish and directional. With expert craftsmanship and a dedication to quality tailoring, From Britten create something paradoxical—distinctly Melbourne and yes completely otherworldly.
Small details add an element of secret delight to the collection—twisted collars, buckles on coats, unorthodox shirt pocket placement and textural contrasting add refined directionality to From Britten’s carefully curated aesthetic. Men of Melbourne take heed—keep it simple for winter, but keep it elegant—From Britten is the perfect mix of masculinity and style for the coffee swilling city dweller.
