Alpha60’s Parrot

Alpha60’s Nouveau Surrealism and The Parrot

By Kat George, 07 May 2010

Siblings Alex and Georgie Cleary are the creative masterminds between Melbourne cult label Alpha60, and are slowly taking over Australia with their Alphaville concept stores. With four stores in Melbourne and two in Sydney, as well as various other stockists across the country, Alpha60 is hard to avoid. Witty and directional, Alpha60 is always careful not to take itself too seriously, and as such has built a universal appeal across a range of style genres, spanning from street to glamour. And with die hard Alpha60 devotees springing up all along the East coast, it wont be long before the label takes over the country- maybe even the world.

For winter, Alpha60 have employed their signature slouchy chic that sees easy to wear, flat coloured basics designed for layering matched with inventive statement pieces. Continuing on from their summer digital prints (hilariously printed tees and dresses featuring the distorted faces of the designers as if pressed against the glass of a photocopier) Alpha60’s winter range features the watchful eye and feathered face of a parrot. Sardonically peering out from it’s silken surface, the bird represents a mockery of thoughtless monotony- an Alpha60 classic message, as the label repeatedly seeks to displace the mundane with their unique brand ironic, dry humour.
