Pop Up Shop Finds Home

Désordre In Darlinghurst

By Ingrid Kesa, 19 January 2011

Perhaps you saw one of its incarnations in Sydney’s Darlinghurst, Bondi Beach or Paddington, or maybe even The Valley in Brisbane. Starting off as a pop-up shop and gracing these suburbs with ephemeral brilliance, Désordre has now found a permanent home amongst South Dowling Street’s small cluster of neighbouring local boutiques.

Each piece in the store is carefully curated by owners Lucinda and Shannon, who want the stock to mirror their own aesthetic. This is sometimes bold and eccentric (we’re looking at you, Konstantina Mittas yellow crepe skater dress and you, Flannel suede fringed jacket), but there are also plenty of wardrobe staples by designers like Nathan Smith. Always fashion-forward, some other prominent pieces include perspex pumps by Ellery, graphic-fantastic bathing suits by We Are Handsome as well as beautifully-crafted leather goods by Sydney up-and-comer Dannika Zen. Men don’t miss out, with the bottom floor devoted to clothes for the dapper gent.

Split over two levels but with an intimate feel, the girls behind the counter are always eager to help out. And with so many amazing garments on offer, you’re going to need it.

It may have its own concrete address, but that doesn’t mean Désordre won’t be sneaking up in a suburb near you soon. Lucinda and Shannon have big plans for store, hoping to continue with the travelling boutique theme, nationally and internationally.
