Secret Squirrel's New Nautical

I'd Like To Be Under The Sea...

By Ingrid Kesa, 02 November 2010

The Summer collection Deep Blue Sea, which takes its title from the eponymous Grizzly Bear song, is inspired by the oft-forgotten world that exists under the ocean. Layered and flowing silk garments mirror the movements of the tides, proving that there’s no place we’d rather be than under the sea. A palette of soft shells and Baltic blues is a new take on nautical, not to mention worthy of an octopuses garden.

Quite contrary to the overarching oceanic influence, utilitarian touches underpin the collection. Khaki and olive is mixed with mustard and neutrals, while structured tailoring and embellished epaulets can be seen in what is perhaps a nod to the navy. However, it’s the reoccurring rope print that really ties the collection together.

Having been penned as one to watch for a while now, Secret Squirrel has been featured in the pages of publications as diverse as Vogue and Frankie.

Secret Squirrel marries Bri and Andrews’ mutual inklings for music and vintage fashion. Testament to this, their garments have been worn by folk songstress Lisa Mitchell and indie-goddess Sarah Blasko.

We think that this is a good enough reason for you to want to jump on board too.
