The Jolet Landscape

Jolet To The World

By Kat George, 15 April 2011

Every now and then a designer comes along with a collection that makes you ask—who is the woman who is dressed in such a way? In the case of Melbourne label Jolet, the enigma is strong, and I’m finding myself asking ‘who is the Jolet woman?’ She seems haunted, ethereal, as if she rolled out of some wild, misty plain. She is contemplative, brooding and elemental—utterly intriguing.

Jolet was born in Melbourne in 2008 and is the rapidly growing baby of designer Jolet Ucchino, who adapted her skills in graphic design, learned at the Royal Melbounre Institute of Technology, to create directional clothing. Wearable yet still on the cutting edge of style, Jolet’s AW11 collection is otherworldly in it’s subtle femininity and secret dark depths.

For AW11 Jolet has taken old world sophistication and plied it with edgy modernity. From skirts and shirts printed with landscape images to angular shoulders and interesting twists and turns, Jolet is an investment for winter. If you had to pick one must have item from the collection, there is twisted silk dress with Gucci-style cut out in the torso that is to die for.
