An Outback Daze

Karla Goes Bush

By Kat George, 20 December 2010

We’ve talked about Karla Spetic before, and I should hope by now we’re all in agreement, so sing it with me now- ‘every little thing she does is magic!’ If you’ve missed the Karla Spetic conversation then don’t worry too much; I’m about to catch you up, and there’s little chance that by the end of this you won’t have fallen completely, madly, deeply (Savage Gardenly) in love.

In short, Karla Spetic is perfect. The Sydney based designer literally cannot put a foot wrong. With undercurrents of high romance, everything about Spetic’s clothing is dreamy, designed not only to fall in love with, but for falling in love in. And everyone loves to fall in love. For summer, Karla Spetic’s collection is all about love- a love that every Australian has, burning deep inside, the love that distance cannot quell- the love of our sunburnt country.

With digital prints of outback scenes and the wide open road in a palette of colours evoking the spirit of red earth and sorbet sunsets, Spetic’s summer is a celebration of Aussie iconography, the bushman, the bareback rider, and sweltering country days. With her signature relaxed silhouettes and silken materials, Spetic blends soft tailoring in blazers and pants to match city with country, and plays subtly on dreamtime references with sheers, body hugging dresses with sequined dots reminiscent of primordial, tribal body paint.
