Sass & Bide is one of Australia’s biggest and most recognizable fashion exports. And what we love best about the iconic label is that its roots are still firmly embedded on Australian shores. Opening a concept store in Sydney’s Strand Arcade, Sass & Bide not only continues to wow audiences overseas but has also maintained its prominence in the home market.
The concept store will feature an exclusive selection of Sass & Bide pieces chosen by the label’s designers, Sarah-Jane Clarke and Heidi Middelton. The carefully curated store will house Sarah-Jane and Heidi’s favourite seasonal pieces, and the designers have said of the store “the idea was to create a bespoke store that highlighted the most special Sass & Bide creations.... We’ve hand-picked our favourite pieces from the season and we will eventually have custom one-off pieces available exclusively at our strand boutique”.
The store itself is an impressive space, designed by renowned architect Kelvin Ho, the aesthetic is simplistic and earthy, in the Sass & Bide style. In keeping with Sarah-Jane and Heidi’s unique personalities, the space reflected their love of art, with artist Adam Laerkensen commissioned to create a dramatic centre piece for the store- a windswept plaster-wrapped tree that took 6 weeks to create, spanning from the floor to ceiling and branching out over the entire roof space.
The collection itself is true to the Sass & Bide style- with tribal influences, Sass & Bide celebrates the Australian beach and bush goddess, interspersed with infinite glamour and sex appeal. With dynamic prints, asymmetrical hemlines, feathers, shearling and fur, Sass & Bide’s AW collection is a dream for urban nomads and modern hippies.
