Clear your schedule and cancel all your appointments! From now on, Saturday should be set aside for bargain-hunting. It’s the biggest market day of the week, and there’s enough treasure to keep you busy all day long. So, roll up your sleeves and show those other market-goers that you mean business.
The Camberwell Market is an institution amongst thrifty folk. It’s held every Sunday in Camberwell, just a short walk from the station. The market is expansive and offers plenty of opportunity to rummage through and revel in trash and treasure.
The Rubble and Riches Market, held every Saturday and Sunday, is another of Melbourne’s resident affairs. It’s located in Laverton and it’s enormous—14 hectares and 1,400 stalls. The abundance of goodies can be overwhelming, but since you’ve already rolled up your sleeves, I assume you’re not going to be phased by the monumental task of sorting through everything.
Melbourne also hosts a number of markets that pop up every month or every couple of months. The Blackbird Market has been hibernating for the Winter, but will re-launch on September 11th, to be held every Saturday at Worker’s Club from then on. It’s advertised as “your perfect day out,” and it actually is. The market itself is crammed with vintage booty, there’s baked goods for sale, lunch specials, and first-rate background music.
Hello Sailor Vintage Fair used to be a floating market that would pop up at different venues every now and again. These days, it’s held on the last weekend of every month at the Grace Darling Hotel. Vintage clothes are Hello Sailor’s specialty, and you’ll have a hard time leaving without an armload of beautiful things.
The Up and Comers Fashion Market is an affair of a different colour. Unlike most of Melbourne’s markets, which peddle vintage items, Up and Comers offers clothes and accessories designed and made by some of Australia’s newest, most creative designers. It’s held in the opulent Ormond Hall on the second Saturday of every month.
Now that we’ve armed you with this information, put on your game face and go huntin’.
