Take something old (timeless style) mix it with something new (Melbourne label Kuwaii) add something cloud coloured (a soft, dreamy palette) and you get Love and a Question. Not that there is really a question about it- Kuwaii is going from strength to strength and their SS11 collection is no exception. From the structural to the sublimely diaphanous, Kuwaii has nailed the aesthetic of the times- infinitely sexy but still flirtatious and feminine.
Using colours like gun metal grey, fawn and splashes of tangerine, Kuwaii evokes the dusky brilliance of a city summer- that time of day just as the sun is going down, the trams are full and the people crowding urban bars are spilling out into the streets. With dramatic twists in the busts of dresses, cut outs in the arms of shirts and some deftly pleated panels, Kuwaii gets laid back, cocktail hour glamour just right.
I’m looking to sheer smoky t-shirts in oversized shapes, an LBD with asymmetrical peplum and shift like shirt dresses in nude shades. There are also some great layered skirts and simple dresses with twisted shoulder features to take any Melbournette from day to night with ease. Add a splash of barely there red to the lips and some stacked wedges for the perfect summer love affair. Questions?
