Of The Eleventh Hour's Spring Summer 11/12 collection, it is simply said, that “a glacier forms over many decades, as a persistent accumulation of snow and sleet slowly compresses and crystallises into ice. The graceful smooth crevasses, cirques and moraines create startling shapes in cool soft pale shades.” The reflection of this in newcomer Anne Tu's collection is astounding. Betwixt the sorbet shades of a glacial sunset, the voluminous drapery and cut outs that appear as if by accident, like cracks in some ancient ice, there is the delicate yet powerful femininity the young designer is fast becoming known for.
Inspired by the natural occurrence and movement of glaciers, in particular New Zealand’s stunning Franz Josef Glacier, the collection, aptly entitled "Melt" is a delight to behold. The collection is described as "fluid, sharp and graceful" and there is almost a stark, otherworldly, ethereal element to it, much like the landscape of a glacier. Using high quality materials including silk, silk georgette, silk crepe and a silk cotton blend, what the collection makes up for in lonely, bleak coldness, it makes up for in expertly tailored, luxurious summer wear.
