Make it a Strummer summer

My first real six-string

By Kat George, 09 November 2010

Browsing Strummer’s summer offerings I can almost hear Bryan Adams warbling distantly in some romanticised, power ballad past. Some place where the sun is always setting and where, hand in hand, teenage sweethearts stand on the balconies of their parents’ homes, glowing with perspiration and first love, making rushed, whispered, wholly unreasonable yet beautifully melodic promises to one another. And that girl- the one promising it will last forever- she’s wearing something like that Strummer check shirt, the one with the frills on the shoulders. Her high-waisted shorts are retro blue like Strummer’s, and as she pulls off her hat she reveals a mess of tangled hair, damp from midday diving in hidden swimming holes.

So if your idea of summer involves long bike rides down tree lined streets, picnics in secluded locations, ice creams that melt- drip, drip, drip!- down your fingers and of course, reckless romance, it’s time to get strumming. Seminal pieces from the Sydney label’s summer collection include some very Bowie silver shorts a girlie check and frill dress as well as an irresistible denim playsuit. For laid back summer lovin’, think high-waist shorts and skirts in block colours with sheer blouses, striped t-shirts, stacked heels and oversized wooden jewellery. And with that, put the top down, blast your best retro redux classic tunes through the radio, and let the summer Strummer love begin.
