Born in Brisbane, fashioned in Sydney and now living in China, Emma Rea is the Australian girl with the horizon at her command and it's starting to show. With her eponymous womenswear label still just a baby, Rea's prowess as a designer has multiplied at a lightning pace since the label's inception several short years ago in 2008. Powerful, directional and unapologetic, Rea's aesthetic is bold and distinctive, and her attention to detail has given the new SS 11-12 range an edge that only whispered in her past seasons.
Moody and mysterious, Rea's collection is based on a muted palette of dove greys, blacks and creams. Varying textures add dynamism as the designer expertly plays light and dark, rough and soft, off each other to create a paradoxical harmony. Tough and raw but with a touch of femininity, Rea focuses on intuitive, organic shapes when constructing her designs. With the collection in stores now, don't miss out on carving out your own little Rea of sunshine for summer. And while you've got the credit card out, be sure to check out Emma's online store, East Meets West.
