When the clock strikes eleven

Summer Eleven

By Kat George, 12 November 2010

In fashion it is rare to see something for the first time, completely new, with little to no context and think ‘yes, that looks complete,’ or ‘yes, I understand this’ or even ‘OH MY FREAKING GOD I MUST HAVE THAT NOW!’ In the case of The Eleventh Hour, all three thoughts races through my head upon perusing the fledgling label’s website, although not necessarily in that order (I bet you can guess which came first, right?).

With a delicate range that is fairy soft and yet powerfully modern, The Eleventh Hour whispers of some of my favourite Australian designers (namely, Dion Lee and Carly Hunter), but with its own subtle character. From gossamer nudes to stoic blacks, the collection is minimal with the most elegant of details to set it apart. If I had to chose a key piece I couldn’t- the whole collection is perfect, and incorporating any piece into an existing wardrobe would be as easy as coveting Chanel’s 2.55.

So incongruous to this relative perfection then is the fact that designer Anne Tu only launched The Eleventh Hour in October. Having spent 3 years working under Kirrly Johnston, the pieces of the puzzle start to fall together. Experience coupled with extensive travel has given Anne an expertise far beyond The Eleventh Hour’s small age. I, for one, cannot wait to see what’s next from this new Sydney label.
