From Summer’s Amorphous Geometrics to Winter’s looming Spectres, Sydney-sider Garth Cook is giving the Australian fashion industry something to really talk about. Deconstructed and architectural, Garth Cook’s work is modern and directional, but lend itself to something deep in the past—a notion of a warrior woman, of Joan of Arc. The Garth Cook woman seems ready for battle, whether it be a busy work day or cocktails at night—she’s powerful, charismatic and unstoppable.
Garth Cook’s Winter collection, Spectres combines expertly folded and draped jerseys with silks and luscious furs. My favourite piece is a fur skirt—paired with a blazer and chunky black wedges, this is Arctic chic for the city girl. Origami like dresses and tops define the collection, a testament to what Garth Cook does best—advanced simplicity. Spectres is a collection of infinite depth but at the same time easy to wear and incorporate as each piece speaks, quite loudly, for itself.
