Something Else's Autumn / Winter 2011 collection sees a return to nature. Titled 'Middle of Nowhere', this offering is inspired by all that is organic found beyond built environments.
A flick through the lookbook evokes Lord Byron’s infamous poem; “there is a pleasure in the pathless woods / there is rapture on the lonely shore / there is society, where none intrudes / by the deep sea, and music in its roar / I love not man the less, but Nature more.”
Desolate landscapes act as canvases for designer Natalie Wood to realise her visions. She is in her element in unadulterated isolation, vibing off scenery that is at once barren and plentiful. The textures, palettes and prints in the collection draw from those that occur in nature.
Chunky, oversized knits with hoods serve the utilitarian purpose of protecting the wearer from the forces, while sheer fabrics are an embodiment of fresh air. Other highlights include the Leather Jersey Jacket which sees the harmonious meeting of these two fabrics, and tailored shorts in the enticingly-titled ‘barely peach’ shade. Printed tees are an easy option, best worn with aztec rings and feathered necklaces.
'Middle of Nowhere' has us dreaming of wilderness warriors, campfire discussions about the cosmos, overwhelming open skies and tripped-out field trips.
