Born and raised in Melbourne, jewellery designer Anna McKeon is now based in New York—but is still bringing a uniquely Australian perspective to her work. With a background in industrial and graphic design, Anna’s debut jewellery collection combines delicate femininity with something a raw and tough. Entitled ‘The Rising’, the range symbolises Anna’s rising star, although the designer says she found her inspiration in the sun—a distinctly Australian influence. With each piece created from shining materials, Anna’s main purpose with The Rising was to explore the way different surfaces captured and responded to the light cast upon them.
Experimental and strong, Anna’s collection is purposeful yet wearable, an often difficult divide to navigate. But Anna does so dexterously, and as a result Wah Wah is both strong and delicate, a dichotomy sometimes likened to the feminine spirit. From geometric, clear acrylic necklaces resembling the effect of shattered glass to slinky brass, gold and silver chains, Wah Wah covers the spectrum from bold to fine and combines the two for explosive results. Also featuring cuffs, earrings and rings and a pervasive cross motif, there’s something a little bit 80s but at the same time a little bit futuristic in Wah Wah’s work.
