Rock'n'Ellery

Welcome to Ellery Land

By Kat George, 14 October 2010

Kym Ellery’s eponymous label is possibly the most fashion forward, covetable brand in Australian fashion. Fact. From her early days as a stylist, Kym, much like Mel Gibson’s silver screen alter-ego, knows what women want. Australian women, actually.

This season Ellery has broken all the rules. Not just the Australian fashion rules, presenting a collection that would be equally at home on some of the world most prominent runways- think London and New York, Paris and Milan- but the Ellery rules. So forget everything you know about Ellery. That slinky mermaid aesthetic that has so pervaded Ellery’s collections thus far has been usurped by something that was always lurking- cool, hard and unapologetic.

Brandishing the rock’n’roll sword, Ellery has swooped forth as if on a visit from space itself, channelling the God of all things avant garde and spangled, David Bowie. Think flares, leather, feathers and glitter. Lots and lots of glitter. With seminal pieces including voluminous sparkling flares and leather mini skirts in black and mustard, Ellery’s SS10-11 range is not for the faint at heart.

So get ready to embrace eras past. Think of the 70s, the glory days when rock and glamour were married in a union of ostentation and downright, you can’t beat this shit, crazy cool. Add a dash of the futuristic with flashes of sliver and moonbeam inspired shades. Fall into Ellery’s arms and tremble like a flower. It’s time to dance.
